Dear Reader,

The Huffington Post reported that Ethisphere rated Microsoft among the most ethical companies in the world in 2011.   Google, Apple and Facebook weren’t even on the list.[1]

Criteria for the award include:

  • Corporate citizenship and responsibility
  • Corporate governance
  • Innovation that contributes to the public well being
  • Industry leadership

Microsoft began working towards this goal in 2000 due to the problems resulting from its antitrust trials.   I know from personal experience that the volunteer work I did during the Summer of 2010 was assisted by Microsoft.   They generously made their New England Research and Development Center available to Give Camp 2010 so that top industry professionals in the technology field could contribute to non-profits and charities.

So who is Ethisphere?  “The highly-regarded Ethics Inside® Certified seal is the only independent verification of a company’s ethics and compliance program and practices.”[4]
